Community Foundation Honors Founder Judge Steve Jones and educator Lillian Kincey
In May 2011, AACF’s Board honored its founding Board Chair Judge Steve Jones and his wife Lillian Kincey by naming its discretionary grants Fund the "Steve Jones and Lillian Kincey Community Impact Fund."
In addition to his legal career, Judge Jones chaired the Partners for a Prosperous Athens/OneAthens initiative from 2006-2008; a process that engaged the entire community in addressing the underlying causes of persistent poverty in Athens. The effort led to the creation of the community foundation as well as ten other initiatives to break the cycle of poverty locally.
Mrs. Kincey is an educator, mentor, and artist. In her role as Assistant Principal of Gaines School Elementary and, more recently, as a Behavioral Specialist with the Clarke County School District, Mrs. Kincey has touched the lives of thousands of children.
Donors choose to support the Steve Jones and Lillian Kincey Community Impact Fund to address the ever-changing needs of the Athens area.
- A gift to this Fund gives back to the community at large rather than to a particular organization or cause by allowing AACF to identify opportunities and target dollars where they will be most effective.
- Nonprofits apply for grants through a competitive process, and AACF’s Board, with the assistance of knowledgeable staff, makes the final decisions on which nonprofits receive funds based on current critical issues.
AACF’s discretionary grants in 2009 and 2010 addressed education; youth development; financial literacy; workforce development & job creation; health care; disability services; early learning; elder care; housing; community building; violence prevention; transportation; arts & cultural activities; increased access to community resources; and increased nonprofit collaboration in the Athens area. A gift to the Steve Jones and Lillian Kincey Community Impact Fund helps ensure that these kinds of grants are permanently available to this community.
