Athens Area Community Foundation makes $25,000 available to local organizations
Athens, Ga. -- Athens Area Community Foundation (AACF) aims to distribute $25,000 to local organizations in April 2010. Grants will average between $1,000 and $5,000 each. Applications are due March 1, 2010.
“Given increasing need for community services, we are very pleased be kicking off our Spring 2010 grants cycle,” said Judge Steve C. Jones, AACF Board Chair. In 2009 AACF awarded $50,000 in grants to 25 local nonprofits addressing education; youth development; financial literacy; workforce development & job creation; health care; disability services; early learning; elder care; housing; community building; violence prevention; transportation; arts & cultural activities; increased access to community resources; increased nonprofit collaboration.
“Our goal is to make grants that leverage other resources and maximize community benefit,” Jones said. For example, one of last year’s grants increased access to healthcare and provided workforce development and another grant provided financial literacy and increased access to emergency funds,” he said.
Meeting community needs while building organizational capacity is critical. “The Community Foundation is interested in organizations that have planned their projects in light of overall community needs with an eye toward building their own sustainability,” said Delene Porter, AACF’s President.
AACF requires applicants to be tax-exempt or provide evidence of their status as an educational, religious, or public entity. The Foundation will not provide grants to individuals. Applications are due March 1, 2010 and awards will be announced at the end of April. To find application forms click here.
